Do link exchanges work?
You bet your bottom dollar they do. You will find countless posts in webmaster online forums explaining how exchanging links with other relevant website will increase your websites popularity, improve your Page Rank with Google and your overall search engine rankings in general. However, if you are wondering does link exchange work – then I say forget all that. The best reason to do link exchanges is to get the actual traffic that each link will generate for you.
Thinking about how you surf the web yourself when you are looking for something in particular, you know that you are are highly likely to click on a link that is related to what you are seeking. Your website’s link on a related site WILL attract traffic naturally.

Do Link Exchanges Work?
Suppose you get 1000 people to link to you who each generate just ten visitors per month. That is an additional 10,000 free visitors to your site per month. You do not even need to be listed in the search engines! You have automatic traffic coming in from other sites even if you are nowhere to be found on the search engines. Try multiplying the above numbers by ten and the figures get really interesting!
The key is not to just exchange links with any site. You should look to exchange links which offer similar website content to that of your own. This is just common sense. If you are going to get an additional 10,000 visitors to your site each month they should preferably be targeted visitors. They should be visitors who are already interested in what your website is all about.
What about SEO, search engine optimization? Well, the search engines – particularly Google are constantly changing their rules and adjusting their algorythyms. It is usually impossible to trick them. Even if you succeed for awhile eventually they catch on and your site may even get banned.
Get Relevant Links
So I say just concentrate on getting relevant links to your site. This is what the search engines are looking for to serve up to their searchers – relevant content and relevant links. Do not try and trick the search engines and do not use the so-called “black hat” methods you see advertised all over the internet. Just dish out the real deal. By not concentrating on SEO you will have what all SEO experts are desperately trying to obtain.
Even if you are not listed immediately in the search engines you will be getting real free targeted traffic from relevant sites, and it will grow and grow and grow – as long as you keep your website informative and interesting. In the end SEO will take care of itself.
